Dress Code Expectations...Revisited
As the year progresses, we are seeing students challenging the expectations for appropriate dress - specifically regarding "being appropriately covered."
The ATA staff requests that parents have a conversation with students and support our expectations for the school setting. As a back up, we have a donation of t-shirts and pants in the event students don't come to school prepared. Administration will also gladly make calls home to discuss supports and options for students having difficulty adhering to the school guidelines.
It is important that all students are able to fully participate in all activities without being self conscious, distracted by their clothing, or worried about judgment.
Expectations for All
We know students may be excited to show off new clothes after the break and want to be proactive in reminding you all about appropriate school clothing choices.

Please refer back to the November 26th post for 4j Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and how it pertains to each.

At ATA:
  1. Students have year long PE with 9 weeks of Health throughout. They are required to wear a short sleeved shirt (no tank tops) and tennis shoes/sneakers during these classes. This needs to be planned for on a daily basis. Shoes and an extra t-shirt may be kept in their locker to change into, if needed.
  2. Students should wear clothing that appropriately covers them in the educational setting. Pants should be at the waist, not drooping; shirts should cover bellies, bras and breasts. Shorts and skirt length need to allow for movement without rising to show bottoms or briefs/underwear.
  3. Any clothing with marijuana leaves, distillery, winery/brewery, and/or tobacco/alcohol brand references are not permitted. The student will be asked to change into something else (we have a clothes closet) and the parent will receive a call.
We understand that fashion and style are continually changing and youth are expressing themselves through clothing. We also want to remind and encourage them to choose the right time and place for certain articles of clothing. This is school. There are all genders, identities, ages 10-14, adults, volunteers, and visiting community members on any given day. It is important to know the appropriate time, place and audience.
