Hello ATA Families & Friends

Dear Families,

We're looking forward to seeing you at conferences next week! Our staff is excited to sit down with you and talk about your student's progress. You should have received all the details about scheduling, but if you have any questions or need help, please reach out—we're here for you.

I also wanted to share a brief update on our school report card from last year. While our scores aren't where we want them to be yet, we did see growth in all three areas—ELA, Math, and Science—and we're now above the state average in each. It's a sign that we're moving in the right direction, and it motivates us to keep pushing. We're committed to doing better for our students, and we appreciate your partnership in that work.

A friendly reminder about cell phones: Cell phones need to stay put away during the school day, bell to bell. We've noticed more phones out in classrooms lately, and some students have shared that their parents need to reach them during the day. We completely understand that sometimes things come up! If that's the case for your family, please reach out to me so we can work together to find a solution that works for everyone.

A few updates and ways to get involved:

  • Food pantry: We're excited to launch a food pantry to support our families! If you'd like to donate nonperishable food items, please drop them off at the school anytime or bring them with you to conferences.
  • Student thrift store: We're also opening a thrift store where students can "shop" for free clothes. If you have gently used clothing to donate—shirts, sweaters, jackets, pants, and the like—we'd love to have them. And that funky '70s sport jacket that's been hanging in your garage for decades? Bring it in—our students would love it! Kids at ATA have their own unique style, and it's honestly fun to see the fashion walking down our hallways. Please make sure items are clean and in reasonable condition (no stains, tears, or inappropriate graphics). Drop donations off at the school or bring them to conferences.
  • Mentors needed: Our Thursday mentoring program needs more caring adults to connect with students. Let us know if you're interested in becoming a mentor!
  • Tutors needed: We're looking for academic tutors, especially in math, science, and writing. Don't worry—our students aren't solving string theory equations or writing the great American novel yet (though we do have some brilliant scholars here!). If you can help with the basics, you're exactly who we need. Give me a call if you're interested.

Looking ahead, students will be out of school next week. Whether you're traveling to see family and friends, hosting loved ones, or enjoying some quiet time at home, we hope you have a wonderful break. If you're hitting the road, please travel safely. We'll see everyone back in class ready to finish the year strong.

Thank you for being part of our school community and for supporting your student's learning at home.

Take care,
Dr. G
