Dear Families and Friends,
Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I enjoy the brisk morning air, the changing of the leaves, and the feeling of a school community settling into its rhythm.
With the change in season often comes cold and flu season. Getting sick happens, and it’s a natural part of the year. If your student will be absent, please call the school office that morning. Knowing who is out and why helps us keep students safe and supported, and it lets teachers gather homework so your child can catch up without stress.
One of my goals this year is to keep growing our attendance rate. Our target this year is for 67 percent of our students to attend 90 percent or more of the school year. That is a starting point, not a finish line. We know we can get even higher, and we want every student to benefit from being here every day they can. You may have already received a message from us about your student’s attendance. We’ll keep sharing these updates and keep refining how we do it so they are as helpful and clear as possible.
At Curriculum Night, I shared that we received a $5,000 grant to strengthen our school climate and culture. This work is closely tied to our attendance goal, because when students feel connected, welcome, and excited to be here, they want to come. Every day in the classroom matters, and we’re committed to making school a place your child wants to be. More to come on this soon.
In an upcoming newsletter, we will add an attendance section with more information about why attendance matters and what to do if you need support getting your student to school regularly. Thank you for partnering with us.
Take care,
Dr. G
