Hello ATA Families & Friends

ATA Friends and Families,

And just like that, it’s November! To those new to the school community this year, my name is Steven Tygart, I go by Mr. Tygart or Tygart at school. To all those returning, welcome back! I feel incredibly blessed to continue to serve this school community as your assistant principal, even if it’s in a half-time fashion. This year I get to be at two phenomenal schools and if you ever need to reach me, I am just a phone call or email away. I am on site everyday for half the day if you want to meet in person.

Not only is it the month of giving thanks, but we have reached the end of the first quarter for this school year! I’m excited to report that our Cross Country team has wrapped up another fantastic season, our Band has had another successful fundraiser at Papa’s Pizza, our mentorship program is in full swing, and we’ve got our 8th grade student cohort taking a field trip for a Career Expo through Connected Lane County.

There is a lot of school left and though there are a lot of days off in November, we’ve got some big things around the corner. I want to keep you aware of some important news and upcoming calendar dates:

  • The 2nd quarter begins on November 9th.
  • Nov. 23-27 — No School: Conferences & Thanksgiving Break. We’ll get the conference schedule out as soon as it is finalized and we hope to see you there.
  • A notice about Ebikes: They're not allowed on sidewalks, and riders must be 16 years old. The district is working on guidance and rules for these vehicles on 4J property.
  • Grades and assignments: Please take time to check in with your student about their classes. If they need help or you have questions, we’re here to collaborate and to support them. Please reach out to us.

Thank you for trusting us with your student and giving us the opportunity to be a part of their growth and learning.

In gratitude,
Tygart

Cell phone policy reminder

ATA has seen an increase in cell phones being carried and used throughout the building.  As a reminder, here is the policy as stated in our Student Handbook:
Students will be allowed to have cell phones and electronic learning devices before school and after school only. Cell phones may not be used during passing times or lunch. All devices are to be kept in student lockers if brought to school.
If a staff member finds a student with a cell phone, they will bring it to the office.
  • With the first confiscation, office staff will return it to the student at the end of the school day with a reminder of school policy.
  • The 2nd & 3rd confiscation will result in calls to a parent or guardian to pick it up.
  • A 4th confiscation requires a conversation with administration and guardian to put a plan in place.
Students are always welcome to leave their devices in the office as a safe place to store them for the day with no consequence.

Missing a sweatshirt or three?  A water bottle, lunch box, or even a pair of pants?  We might have them in the Lost & Found! Have your student go through the cluttered closet of lost belongings to find their items.  We will have these on display during Parent/Teacher Conferences, as well.
