Good morning ATA Families!
I am going to start by apologizing that you are receiving this communication today and not yesterday. I want to share some information and updates.
In all my other communication, I realize I had not shared that we are down some essential staff right now:
Registrar: Burgandee has been on leave this month and will return Monday. She is the one who does all scheduling and enrollment/registration. This has been a huge undertaking for admin and the office.
Secretary: Katie accepted a job at South Eugene High School and the request took longer to post than expected. We will be doing interviews next week. In the meantime, admin and other staff have been trying to fill that role.
Special Education Teacher: Laura Griffin moved to another school. Her replacement, Kathryn Young, will join us in mid/late November. In the meantime, Teacher Alex has graciously accepted the long term sub position and already begun making connections with students and staff. A case manager will be put in place for temporary support. Please reach out to admin if you or your child need specific support and we can direct you.
Math 7 Teacher: We are in the process of hiring a math teacher for 7th grade due to a late change in staffing. In the meantime, Mr. Jay - our beloved sub of years, formerly an EA at ATA and our go to guest teacher for all things - is filing in. Most students know him from subbing in most every class last year.
Schedules:
Quarter 1 schedules will be handed out today during first period. While there may still be some minor tweaks for some students, they are ready. I am now aware of the inconvenience this caused student athletes in not being able to prove school enrollment and am extremely sorry for that impact. In the future (not that I hope this to happen again) the school can provide other verification to coaches. Please always feel free to email hruby@4j.lane.edu. I check my email frequently and promise timely response.
Heat:
Yesterday was not warm - it was HOT. We are fortunate to have AC but all students spent time outside throughout the day. For some students, it was too much time. We will be far more cautious of the time spent out in the warmer weather and there will always be the option for students to drink water, go to the shade, or be inside.
Please know that someone is always available to support you and your child, even when we are short staffed! Email is effective as phone calls and in person can be more difficult when students are in front of us.
Thank you for being our ATA community. Thank you for being understanding and giving us grace during this crazier than usual beginning of the year time.
Be well. Stay cool.
Ms. AJ
