Dear ATA Families,
I hope this message finds you well-rested and ready for an exciting new school year! Whether you're returning to ATA Middle School or joining us for the first time, welcome; we are so glad you're here.
My name is Misael Flores Gutiérrez, but around here, students know me as Dr. G. As your principal, I'm looking forward to another wonderful year together.
This year, we're building on the foundation we laid last year, grounded in our district's vision that when every student feels a true sense of belonging, they are supported to learn, attend, and ultimately graduate ready for what's next. Belonging isn't just one more goal alongside the others; it's the foundation that makes them possible. You'll see this vision come to life in our classrooms, hallways, and school culture all year long.
To our incoming 6th grade families, welcome! We know that starting middle school is a big transition, and it's normal for students (and parents) to feel a mix of excitement and nerves. Please know that our staff is here to support your child every step of the way as they find their footing at ATA.
What's New This Year
We have a lot to be excited about:
- New elective courses: students will have an expanded selection of electives to explore new interests and passions.
- New staff members: please join me in welcoming Eric Wade, our new 7th grade math teacher, and Teresa Barrington, our new 7th grade PE and Health Education teacher. We're thrilled to have them join the ATA family!
- A new daily schedule: this year, we're moving from a seven-period day to a six-period day with 50-minute classes. We believe this change will give students more time to engage deeply in each class and reduce transition time throughout the day.
In This Newsletter
You'll find key information about the upcoming school year throughout this newsletter, so please take a few minutes to read through it. And this is just the beginning. We'll continue to share updates and details as the school year gets underway, so keep an eye out for future newsletters and communications. And don't forget to also check out our school website for additional information (e.g., school supply list).
Let's Partner Together
As always, I encourage you to get involved in our school community this year, whether through volunteering, attending events, or simply staying connected. And as I've said before, my door is always open. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions, ideas, or concerns at any time.
Here's to a fantastic year ahead!
Take care,
Dr. G
